Spider Tattoos
Spider tattoos span the globe with a plethora of different designs and significances because most cultures have some myths or legends related to spiders, maybe because they live pretty much everywhere, or the fact that so many people find them either fascinating or terribly scary.
Plenty of tribal cultures have spider tattoos as part of their cultural life, but in the modern world it has taken the symbolism of struggle, the struggle in the web of life. Whether you’re struggling with an addiction or against a political system, or just struggling to live the spider and its web are there to represent that.
In general, spider tattoos have become associated with the entangled web of life, where no matter what you do or how hard you try, living in society keeps you tangled in a constantly growing web alongside others.
Usually one tends to see pictures of tattoos that depict spiders on those whom society has deemed to require incarceration and for good reason, since these are usually pretty bad guys.
However with tattoos becoming more and more acceptable in the past few decades, those darker meanings to spider tattoos have left to the more shady aspects of society and spiders have gotten other connotations, more modern connotations if we would think about the Lord of The Rings books and movies or the very popular comic book character and movie franchise Spider-Man.
However there’s more to spider tattoos than that, so individuals prefer to take on the symbolism of the creature’s attributes, namely patience thanks to the way a spider will carefully spin its web and
then wait hidden for prey to get snagged in it, and even a dose of malice thanks to the spider’s way of killing its prey by injecting its deadly venom.
Another way that one can use spider tattoos is to combine them with tribal shoulder tattoos because the illustration of a spider lends itself to such a design and they can sometimes be combined with scorpion tattoos in order to enhance the symbolism of the first. The scorpion being part of the arachnid family and representing strength, pain and healing which all work when added to the web of life symbolism of spider tattoos.
Scorpion tribal tattoos can be merged with spider tattoos as well, because spider tattos make a great background design for lower back tattoos because of the texture offered by the spider’s web.
Some of the most popular spider tattoos at the moment are those that depict a black widow, many seeing in it a symbol of the dark side of love or maybe the death of past love. For some others though it symbolizes independence and in some cases even vengeance.
Spider tattoos are so versatile in their symbolism that they mean different things to different people across the globe, varying from case to case. To some they are a symbol of cunning and creativity to other they represent the inescapable web of life with its problems, while to others they represent patience and vengeance. Some have been known to combine their spider tattoos with Italian tattoos and even fairy tattoos in order to fit in better with their own beliefs.
