Mask Tattoos

Mask Tattoos are seemingly most common for chest, back and arm tattoos. However, the more intricate and detailed mask tattoos are generally reserved for the back and chest as they do tend to be larger tattoos and require more room for their application.

Some people use the mask tattoos as face tattoos though this may not be particularly suitable for everyone. Still, there are some very beautiful, very clever and even some very scary mask tattoos ideas if you are looking to get one done. While the mask tattoos may not be for everyone and the face tattoos are certainly not ideal for all working environments, they do offer some interesting and unique views into the world of tattoos and even the tattoo artists.

Most of the Mask Tattoos are not made from simple designs or highly detailed geometrical designs like the Maori Tattoos but rather are used to depict an actual mask in one form or another. One of the most common mask tattoos is the Two Muses of Comedy and Tragedy also known as Thalia and Melpomine. You may see them as one open or unfilled tattoo with the other being filled completely. Generally the mask tattoos of Melpomine or the Muse of Tragedy will be the filled mask tattoo.  Not all of the mask tattoos are nearly this simple however.

Many of the mask tattoos are highlighted and offer much more than a simple mask upon closer inspection. Some of the more complex will be highlighted with anything from star tattoos to angel tattoos giving more detail to the mask and even highlighting certain features within the larger, mask tattoo.  Some of the masks will actually be sections with cross tattoos cutting across the larger tattoo and forming distinct sections which will all contain even more intricate ink and details that can often be seen only from a very close perspective while appearing for all intents and purposes, to be perfectly normal mask tattoos from afar.

Some of the smaller mask tattoos are equally impressive in their own rights though. One in particular that comes to mind was tattooed on the back of a man’s head. The mask itself appeared to be crawling out of a ripped out hole in the back of the man’s head (tattooed there of course) and the mask itself had the most expressive face with a look of absolute wonderment on its face. If you read between the lines, that is one mask tattoo that definitely has a not-so-subtle message very subtly expressed and also easily concealed should that be necessary.

If you are thinking about the mask tattoos, the question is not so much if you can get one but deciding which one best suits your personality. If you do not want just plain bull tattoos, cross tattoos or other comparatively dull tattoos, take a little time out and look at some of the mask tattoos that are available these days. Mask tattoos, like most all tattoos are growing in both popularity, style and design from the complex to the simple.
