Dove Tattoos

The dove is a globally accepted symbol of peace, and this is especially true in Western countries where there’s a very old and very religious connotation to doves and white doves especially. This means that dove tattoos have taken on that same symbolism and more.

Some of the symbolism of Dove Tattoos goes way back to the Old Testament where the dove brings Noah back an olive branch in its beak, thus meaning that his ordeal on the seas was over. That’s where doves and dove tattoos implicitly get their meaning of hope and later they also gained the meaning of peace.

Another meaning of the dove is that of the Holy Ghost and this translates into some dove tattoos symbolizing the passing of a loved one, that’s why some people will wear dove tattoos coupled with various names or quotations much like Italian tattoos to always have a permanent reminder of the loved one that passed away.

Dove tattoos are also amongst the most common tattoos for girls alongside fairy tattoos and lower back tattoos. This is so because the dove also symbolizes things like everlasting love, fidelity and generally a happy life at home, and this is a reason why many ladies wear doves somewhere on their body. Usually a pair of dove tattoos represents a very strong relationship because doves tend to have the same partner for their whole life span.

However this doesn’t mean that dove tattoos are only worn by girls or women, there are also men who choose to wear doves in order to symbolize either the passing of a loved one or their dedication to their partner or family by combining dove tattoos with tribal shoulder tattoos. This goes for dove cross tattoos as well, these are worn by the devout Christian to combine the symbolisms of his or her faith and that of the dove.

A lot of people used to have a very bad opinion about tattoos in general but when they saw tattoos pictures of dove tattoos they reconsidered their views on this form of art. This happened because some people still hung to the stereotypical view of body art and tattoos, and they saw these expressions as a representation of anti-social behavior and as a way of separating those who had tattoos from the rest of society. However wearers of dove tattoos have the exact opposite goal in mind, they are anything but anti-social and the tattoos they wear are meant to showcase that.

As we’ve seen dove tattoos can mean a lot of things, and they’re not limited to Christian influenced symbolism, to some dove tattoos are symbols of love and harmony and they’re sometimes used in conjunction with the hippie symbol of peace in order to display those beliefs.

One thing that can be said about all dove tattoos and their wearers is that their tattoos hold a clear, strong and very personal meaning to them; they represent something or someone that they’re not going to ever forget.
